Understanding Calendar math & Business Days Counts
Calculating the time duration between two calendar dates seems straightforward, but requires accounts for leap cycles, specific months configurations, and weekend structures.
For project managers, legal professionals, and financial analysts, counting **business days** (often referred to as workdays) is crucial. A business day represents any day of the week from Monday through Friday, excluding weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and national bank holidays. This **Days Between Dates Calculator** lets you toggle whether to view full calendar durations or strictly business workdays.
How the Days Calculations Operate
Standard duration counting does not include the start day as a full count (treating day intervals as differences). If you want to count every single day in the period (for instance, a contract starting on June 1st and ending on June 5th covers 5 calendar days), you must enable the **Include End Date** option.
To compute business days, the algorithm iterates from the start date to the target end date, evaluating the day of the week for each step (using Javascript getDay() method, where 0 represents Sunday and 6 represents Saturday). If the value falls between 1 and 5, it increments the workday counts.
